Massage Modalities

SWEDISH MASSAGE - The most widely used massage method. Uses five basic massage techniques that are applied with various parts of the hand, depending on the area worked on for the client, and the desired effect.

REFLEXOLOGY - Based on the theory that Reflex points in the hands and feet relate to every area (muscles, organs, etc.) of the body. Compression type massage is applied to the reflex point associated with the area to be assisted. Relieves tension, improves circulation and helps restore normal body function to the area being addressed. Reflexology puts the nervous system into a parasympathetic state, the only state in which rest and repair can occur.

SPORTS MASSAGE - A specialized use of Swedish Massage that is used to help athletes attain optimal condition for athletic events and to help the athletes bodies recover from the exertion expended during the athletic events. Generally speaking, deeper, more specific massage work is done when the athlete is in training and lighter, and more general massage is done after an athletic event to help the body recover. Sports Massage is one of the most visible specialties in massage therapy today. Reducing muscle soreness and recovery time, providing prevention/treatment of athletic injuries, and enhancing performance are but a few of the most commonly acknowledged benefits of sports massage. Sports Massage therapists often combince pre- and post-event, recovery, and maintenance massage sessions with hydrotherapy and range-of-motion/flexibility procedures. When you add an understanding of strength/endurance training principles to this format, athletes begin experiencing some of the best hands-on care available. Advanced practitioners of sports therapy possess the expertise to provide an even broader base of comprehensive therapies. Hydrotherapy, flexibility and training approaches with a working knowledge of hands-on orthopedic assessment , highly refined palpation skills, injury rehabilitation/prevention strategies and an understanding of the essentials of sport by sport biomechanics.

HYDROTHERAPY - Water is effective because not only does the body need water to dissolve, transport, and finally absorb nutrients, water also extracts and discards waste material through internal organs and through the skin. Application of water changes the skin temperature, resulting in an action; this in turn causes a reaction. This action/reaction generates a third force which initiates self-healing...seeking a balance...homeostasis in the body. Whether used as a fluid, solid, or vapor, water can powerfully influence almost all of our vital systems. Primary effects of hot water include: *Vasodilation, *Analgesic, *Relaxing Muscle Fiber, *Increase Circulation, *Increase Metabolism, *Increase Nerve response, *Increase Respiration, *Increase Muscle response, *Increase rate of Blood Flow, *Increase volume of Blood Flow

CONNECTIVE TISSUE THERAPY - The work is deep, in a profound and insightful sense, and is not hard or forcing. In working with the fascia of the body, we seek to open all the pathways so the life force can flow more freely and efficiently. We always honor the client's sensation threshold. The goal is to facilitate the opening of the body and to support the client in deepening their awareness of self and their own innate healing capacities in the process.
